The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team had a tough time on the court as it dropped a 9-0 decision to NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay on Sunday (April 5) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

UW-Green Bay (4-12) won 72 of its 84 games in singles play and 24 of its 29 games in doubles action to post the victory over the NCAA Division III Titans (9-6). The Phoenix won all six of its singles contests in straight sets.

Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha) put up UW-Oshkosh's best fight with her 6-4, 6-2 loss to Kari Petrashek at No. 6 singles. The Titans also had Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) drop a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Kelly Stadium at No. 2 singles.

Other singles winners for UW-Green Bay were Emily Lawent in the first flight, Aschley Jurgella in the third, Morgan Weuve in the fourth and Lauren Grimando in the fifth. Lawent and Jurgella led the group by recording 6-0, 6-0 wins over Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh) and Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine), respectively. Grimando compiled a 6-1, 6-0 win over Eva Counsell (Fr. • Elkhorn) and Weuve a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia).

UW-Green Bay had a pair of 8-2 winners in doubles play as Grimando and Lawent defeated Abbott and Bostwick in the first flight while Jurgella and Petrashek ousted Counsell and Leffler in the third. The Phoenix won at No. 2 doubles as Stadum and Weuve defeated Braasch and Broerman, 8-1.

The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team resumed its 2008-09 schedule with an 8-1 victory over Edgewood College on Saturday (April 4) in La Crosse. It was the Titans' first action since they competed at the WIAC Tournament last October.

UW-Oshkosh (9-5) won two singles contests in regulation as Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine) posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hannah Pincsak in the third flight and Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha) a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Becca Chavey in the sixth.

Winning on a tiebreaker were UW-Oshkosh's Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) at No. 2 singles and Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia) at No. 4 singles. Bostwick defeated Lizzie Starck, 6-7, 7-5 (10-6), while Braasch ousted Jenny Pietkauskis, 7-5, 5-7 (10-8). It was the first loss for Starck in 16 contests.

At No. 5 singles, UW-Oshkosh's Eva Counsell (Fr. • Elkhorn) won on an injury default over Erica Troia.

The lone Edgewood College (13-9) winner was Kelsey Steinhorst at No. 1 singles. Steinhorst topped Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh), 6-2, 6-0.

UW-Oshkosh swept all three doubles contests, with the highlight being an 8-4 victory for Counsell and Leffler over Kate Brondyke and Brittany Storhoff in the third flight. Winning by 9-7 scores were Abbott and Bostwick over Pincsak and Starck at No. 1 doubles and Braasch and Broerman over Steinhorst and Bridget Prendergast at No. 2 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh placed in all three doubles events as it totaled 11 points for a fourth-place finish at the WIAC Women's Tennis Tournament held Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 25-26) at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

UW-Whitewater won its second straight WIAC championship at the event. The team title was determined by using a combination of the regular season dual meet standings and the conference championship results. The finish in the regular season conference standings accounted for one-third of the criteria, while the WIAC championship accounted for the remaining two-thirds.

The conference crown for the Warhawks is the ninth in school history. UW-Whitewater totaled 21 points in the final championship standings to outdistance UW-La Crosse’s second-place total of 18. UW-Eau Claire finished third with 15, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 11, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 10, UW-Stout sixth with five and UW-River Falls seventh with four.

UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater advance to a team tournament to decide the conference’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Tournament. The WIAC team tournament will be held at UW-Whitewater the weekend prior to the NCAA championship in the spring.

During the two-day conference championship, UW-Whitewater won all six singles titles and all three doubles crowns. Former league member Marquette University is the only other program to win all nine individual titles at the WIAC championship - accomplishing the feat in 1982.

Leading the charge for UW-Whitewater was Jenny Woyahn, who won her second straight No. 6 singles crown with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over UW-River Falls’ Mindy Rudiger. Kalla Schaefer claimed the No. 1 singles plaque with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over UW-Stout’s Allie Hinman, while Ingrid Stensvaag was victorious at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over UW-Stevens Point’s Chelsea Allbaugh.

At No. 3 singles, Annie Smith earned a 7-6 (3), 6-7 (8), 6-0 triumph over UW-La Crosse’s Katie McDonald. Amy Siemon won the No. 4 singles championship with a 6-2, 6-3 win over UW-Eau Claire’s Erin Welch. Michelle Daciolas upended UW-La Crosse’s Sarah Schoenwaelder by a 6-3, 6-1 margin to claim the No. 5 singles title.

Schaefer and Siemon teamed to win the No. 1 doubles crown with an 8-1 victory over UW-Stevens Point’s Allbaugh and Rachel Benn, while Stensvaag and Daciolas claimed the No. 2 doubles title with an 8-2 win over UW-Eau Claire’s Welch and Brenna McCormick.

UW-Whitewater’s Brittany Gering won her second consecutive No. 3 doubles trophy with an 8-5 triumph over UW-Oshkosh’s Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine) and Kristina Naidicz (Fr. • Kenosha). Kara Amundson teamed with Gering in the victory.

In addition to that second-place result in No. 3 doubles, the Titans had Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) earn third place in No. 3 singles. Bostwick topped UW-Eau Claire’s Brenna McCormick 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 to achieve her finish. In No. 5 singles, UW-Oshkosh’s Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia) took third after topping UW-River Falls’ Brittany Bonine 6-3, 6-3, and UW-Stout’s Lindsey Luberda 6-1, 6-1.

The Titans’ doubles success continued with Braasch and Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha) in the second flight. They defeated a UW-Stout duo, 8-1, before knocking off a UW-La Crosse pair, 8-3, to take third place. In No. 1 doubles, Bostwick and Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh) gathered a fifth-place result.

Leffler added to her performance with a fifth-place listing in No. 4 singles. She posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over UW-Stout’s Kiersten Thomsen for that distinction. Also taking fifth for UW-Oshkosh was Eva Counsell (Fr. • Elkhorn) in No. 6 singles. Counsell topped UW-Stevens Point’s Emily Oxton (7-5, 4-6, 6-1), as well as UW-Stout’s Emily Jubert by a tally of 6-4, 7-6 (6).

UW-Whitewater head coach Frank Barnes was voted the Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, while UW-Stout’s Jodie Czech received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.

Named to the All-Sportsmanship Team were: UW-Eau Claire’s Brenna McCormick, UW-La Crosse’s Katie McDonald, UW-Oshkosh’s Braasch, UW-River Falls’ Kathryne Ostrowski, UW-Stevens Point’s Kaitlyn King, UW-Stout’s Kiersten Thomsen and UW-Whitewater's Jenny Woyahn.

The 37th edition of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Tennis Championship will be held Oct. 25-26 at UW-Madison’s Nielsen Tennis Stadium to decide six singles champions, three sets of doubles champions and one team champion. Competition will begin approximately 12:40 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The team title will be determined by using a combination of the regular season dual meet standings and the conference championship results. The finish in the regular season standings accounts for one-third of the criteria, while the WIAC championship accounts for the remaining two-thirds.

Point distribution following dual meet competition included: UW-Whitewater (6-0) (7 points), UW-La Crosse (5-1) (6 points), UW-Eau Claire (4-2) (5 points), UW-Stevens Point (2-4) (4 points), UW-Oshkosh (2-4) (3 points), UW-River Falls (1-5) (2 points) and UW-Stout (1-5) (1 point).

The first day of competition will consist of the first two rounds of doubles matches followed by the first round of singles matches. The second day of the championship will feature the final two rounds of singles matches followed by the final round of doubles matches.

The top four teams (following the conclusion of the WIAC championship) will advance to a team tournament that will determine the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The team tournament will be held at the site of the overall conference champion the weekend prior to the NCAA championship next spring.

This weekend, UW-Whitewater will aim for a second straight team title - and third in the last five seasons - and owns the top seed in all six singles flights.

At No. 1 singles, UW-Whitewater freshman Kalla Schaefer owns the top seed. She also won the prestigious Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional and competed in the ITA National Small College Championship. UW-Eau Claire junior Gina Dahl won the No. 2 singles crown a year ago after placing second in 2006.

UW-Stevens Point junior Rachel Benn is seeded second and won the No. 2 singles title in 2006 while attending UW-La Crosse. UW-Whitewater junior Ingrid Stensvaag has the top spot at No. 2 singles. She finished second at No. 1 singles last season. UW-La Crosse junior Carlie Bohrman is seeded second and won the No. 5 singles crown in 2006.

UW-La Crosse sophomore Katie McDonald is the defending champion at No. 3 singles and is seeded second behind UW-Whitewater freshman Annie Smith. The flight also features UW-Eau Claire junior Brenna McCormick who was the No. 6 singles winner in 2006 and took second at No. 4 singles a year ago. UW-Oshkosh freshman Emily Bostwick is seeded third, while UW-Stout senior Jodie Czech placed second at No. 2 singles in 2007.

UW-Whitewater senior Jenny Woyahn will aim to defend her championship at No. 6 singles and enters as the top seed. She placed second at No. 5 singles in 2006. UW-River Falls senior Mindy Rudiger finished second at No. 6 singles in 2005 and is seeded third.

No. 4 singles is led by UW-Whitewater sophomore Amy Siemon, while Warhawk junior Michelle Daciolas is the leader at No. 5 singles. UW-Eau Claire junior Erin Welch is seeded second at No. 4 singles and took second at No. 5 singles last season.

In doubles competition, UW-Whitewater’s Schaefer and Siemon own the top spot in the No. 1 flight. Siemon was a No. 3 doubles champion a year ago, while UW-Eau Claire’s Dahl finished second at No. 1 doubles. Dahl was the champion at No. 3 doubles in 2006.

UW-River Falls senior Kathryne Ostrowski and Rudiger have earned league medals with Ostrowski winning No. 1 doubles last season and Rudiger placing second at No. 2 doubles in 2006.

The No. 2 doubles flight includes UW-Eau Claire’s McCormick and Welch. McCormick won the flight in 2006 and placed second last season, while Welch took second at No. 3 doubles a year ago. UW-La Crosse senior Debbie Braun will also participate at No. 2 doubles. She earned the No. 3 doubles title in 2005. UW-Whitewater senior Brittany Gering is a returning champion at No. 3 doubles after placing second in 2006.

The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team tacked up wins in five singles slots to grab a 6-3 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Friday (Oct. 17) at the Fox Cities Racquet Club in Appleton.

UW-Oshkosh (8-5/2-4 WIAC) earned two of its team points in doubles play as Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia) and Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha) won in the second flight and Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine) and Kristina Naidicz (Fr. • Kenosha) in the third. Braasch and Broerman defeated Emily Riordan and Kaylei Sorensen, 8-2, while Leffler and Naidicz dumped Kaitlyn King and Emily Oxton, 8-3.

UW-Stevens Point (7-5, 2-4 WIAC) owned the winner at No. 1 doubles as Chelsea Allbaugh and Rachel Benn edged Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh) and Eva Counsell (Fr. • Elkhorn), 8-6.

In singles play, UW-Oshkosh tallied its lone team point on Counsell's 6-2, 6-2 win over King in the fifth flight.

UW-Oshkosh lost a pair of third-set tiebreakers in singles action as Naidicz dropped a 2-6, 6-0 (10-8) decision to Benn in the first flight and Leffler a 4-6, 6-3 (17-15) result to Riordan in the third.

UW-Stevens Point won three singles contests in straight sets, including Allbaugh's 6-3, 6-1 victory over Abbott in the second flight. The Pointers also enjoyed Sorensen's 6-3, 6-3 win over Braasch at No. 4 singles and Oxton's 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Broerman at No. 6.

UW-Oshkosh's next action is at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 25-26 in Madison.

The UW-La Crosse women's tennis team set the tone with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play and flew to a 7-2 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Friday (Oct. 10) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

UW-La Crosse (7-1/3-0 WIAC) jumped to its early lead on doubles victories from Carlie Bohrman and Sarah Schoenwaelder in the first flight, Debbie Braun and Katie McDonald in the second and Megan Fallon and Kelly Kuether in the third.

Bohrman and Schoenwaelder edged Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh) and Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay), 8-5, while Braun and McDonald defeated Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia) and Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha), 8-1. Fallon and Kuether rounded out UW-La Crosse's doubles sweep by posting an 8-6 win over Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine) and Kristina Naidicz (Fr. • Kenosha).

UW-Oshkosh earned its only team points on singles wins by Bostwick in the third flight and Leffler in the fourth. Bostwick posted a 3-6, 6-4 (12-10) victory over McDonald, while Leffler tallied a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Fallon.

The Titans suffered a tough loss at No. 2 singles as Abbott dropped a 5-7, 6-2 (10-5) decision to Bohrman.

Other singles winners for the Eagles were Kuether in the first flight, Schoenwaelder in the fifth and Braun in the sixth. Kuether registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Naidicz, while Schoenwaelder counted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Braasch. Braun won on a result of 7-6, 6-1 over Eva Counsell (Fr. • Elkhorn).

Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) won at both No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Lawrence University on Thursday (Sept. 25) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Bostwick prevailed in singles play as she posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over Lisa Ritland. In doubles action, Bostwick teamed with Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh) to record an 8-6 triumph over Ritland and Elizabeth Larson.

Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine) also won twice for the Titans. She registered a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Emily Dalton at No. 4 singles and united with Kristina Naidicz (Fr. • Kenosha) to pick up an 8-4 win over Dalton and Emma Kent at No. 3 doubles.

Other winners for UW-Oshkosh (6-2) were Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia) and Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha). Braasch marked a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Katherine Valde at No. 5 singles while Broerman tallied a 6-1, 7-6 win over Kent at No. 6 singles.

Lawrence University (9-4) owned a pair of singles winners in Larson and Hanah McCarthy. Larson beat Naidicz by a 6-2, 6-2 score in the first flight while McCarthy topped Abbott by a 4-6, 6-0 (10-7) result in the second.

The Vikings won at No. 2 doubles as McCarthy and Tara Lahtinen trimmed Braasch and Broerman, 9-8.

The UW-Oshkosh women’s tennis team posted a clean sweep of the singles and doubles matches as it defeated Ripon College, 9-0, on Wednesday (Sep. 17) at Kolf Sports Center Complex in Oshkosh.

Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine) posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Arielle Denis in the No. 3 singles pairing to pace the Titans. Leffler also teamed up with Kristina Naidicz (Fr. • Kenosha) to top Megan Petri and Meagan Sykes, 8-2, in the second doubles competition.

The other two doubles results consisted of an 8-3 win by Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia) and Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha) against Chelsey Foster and Josie Ullsperger, along with an 8-2 decision from Kate Broerman (So. • Kenosha) and Kayla Kodet (Fr. • Manitowoc) over Brooke Deans and Megan Sockness.

Naidicz earned a 6-2, 6-1 triumph in the first flight over Ullsperger while Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) prevailed, 6-4, 6-0, over Brittany Sullivan in flight No. 2. The fourth singles flight belonged to Braasch, who won 6-0, 6-2, against Ripon College’s Foster.

Broerman defeated Erin Gebhardt, 6-1, 6-2, in flight No. 5, while Eva Counsell (Fr. • Elkhorn) rounded out the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Katie Dricken in the sixth singles meeting.

The WIAC has named UW-Oshkosh women's tennis players Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh) and Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) as its Doubles Team of the Week. The award recognized their efforts in matches held Sept. 8-14.

Competing at No. 1 doubles, Abbott and Bostwick opened WIAC play by defeating their opponents from UW-Stout on Sept. 12 and UW-Eau Claire and Sept. 13.

In UW-Oshkosh’s 5-4 win over UW-Stout, Abbott and Bostwick posted an 8-6 victory over Amanda O’Keefe and Sarah Smith. In the Titans’ 6-3 loss to UW-Eau Claire, Abbott and Bostwick tallied an 8-6 win over Gina Dahl and Jackie Gillespie.

The UW-Oshkosh tandem concluded the week with a 2-1 record after dropping an 8-6 decision to Alana Humpal and Kathryn Nichols of Luther College (Iowa) on Sept. 13.

Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) earned three victories in her four matches as the UW-Oshkosh tennis team dropped a pair of decisions to UW-Eau Claire and Luther College (Iowa) on Saturday (Sep. 13) in Eau Claire.

The Blugolds took 5-of-6 singles events in defeating the Titans, 6-3, in the first match. Luther College prevailed in all three doubles competitions to top UW-Oshkosh, 6-1, in the day’s second clash.

Bostwick earned the Titans’ only singles victories with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over UW-Eau Claire’s Brenna McCormick and a 6-1, 6-4 total against Luther College’s Mary Fairfield. Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh) joined Bostwick in an 8-6 win over the Blugolds’ Gina Dahl and Jackie Gillespie in the first doubles flight.

UW-Oshkosh’s other win was a 9-7 final by Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine) and Kristina Naidicz (Fr. • Kenosha) against UW-Eau Claire’s No. 3 doubles pair of Megan Born and Emily Hiebl. The Blugolds posted an 8-6 victory in the other doubles match as McCormick and Erin Welch knocked off Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia) and Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha).

UW-Eau Claire received wins from Gina Dahl (6-2, 6-1) and Megan Born (6-3, 6-1) in the top two singles flights over Kristina Naidicz (Fr. • Kenosha) and Abbott, respectively. In flight No. 4, Welch topped Leffler by a score of 6-3, 6-3.

Flight No. 5 saw the Blugolds’ Michelle Reinders defeat Braasch, 7-6, 6-1, while Hiebl prevailed, 3-6, 6-1 (10-8) over the Titans’ No. 6 Broerman.

All three doubles matches went to Luther College by a margin of 8-6. In flight No. 1, it was Alana Humpal and Kathryn Nichols over Abbott and Bostwick, to go along with Meghan Williams and Brynne Zinnecker over Braasch and Broerman in the second pairing. Flight No. 3 resulted in a Kelsie Allen and Fairfield victory over UW-Oshkosh’s Leffler and Naidicz.

Luther College’s Humpal took out Naidicz, 6-0, 6-3, in No. 1 singles, as well as Allen’s 5-7, 6-0 (10-6) win against the Titans’ No. 2 Abbott. Cami Czech outscored UW-Oshkosh’s Broerman, 6-1, 6-1, for Luther College’s third singles success. The fourth and fifth flights did not finish their matches.

A sweep of all three doubles matches helped the UW-Oshkosh women’s tennis team to a 5-4 victory against UW-Stout on Friday (Sep. 12) in Menomonie.

Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine) and Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia) each won both their singles and doubles events to lead the Titans. Leffler defeated UW-Stout’s Kiersten Thomsen, 6-2, 6-4 and teamed up with Kristina Naidicz (Fr. • Kenosha) to take down Emily Jubert and Lindsey Luberda by a margin of 8-4.

Braasch earned a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sarah Smith in the No. 5 singles match while joining Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha) to knock off Jodie Czech and Thomsen, 8-3, in the No. 2 doubles battle. UW-Oshkosh also received an 8-3 win in the first doubles flight from Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh) and Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) against the Blue Devils’ tandem of Amanda O’Keefe and Smith.

UW-Stout posted victories in the other four singles competitions, including a 6-1, 6-3 decision of Allie Hinman over Naidicz and a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 tally by Czech against Abbott in the top two billings.

Other singles triumphs for the Blue Devils came from O’Keefe over Bostwick by a score of 6-2 (9-7), 7-6 in flight No. 3 and Jubert over Broerman by a 6-2, 6-3 figure in the sixth flight.

The UW-Oshkosh women’s tennis team opened the season by capturing 16-of-18 matches in wins over both Wartburg College (Iowa) and Edgewood College on Saturday (Aug. 30) at McKee Farms Park in Fitchburg.

The Titans prevailed, 8-1, in both matches as they started the season 2-0 for the second consecutive year. UW-Oshkosh took advantage of the doubles competition, sweeping all six contests.

Jenna Abbott (Sr. • Oshkosh) and Emily Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) teamed up to take down Wartburg College’s Molly Eslick and Leanna Jenkins by a score of 8-6. The Titans’ No. 1 pair also defeated Edgewood College’s duo of Hannah Pinczak and Lizzie Starck in an 8-3 decision.

UW-Oshkosh’s No. 2 doubles flight of Brittany Braasch (Jr. • Ixonia) and Alison Broerman (So. • Kenosha) earned victories of 9-8 over Wartburg College (0-2) and 8-6 over Edgewood College (1-2). In the third flight, Liz Leffler (Fr. • Racine) and Kristina Naidicz (Fr. • Kenosha) posted wins of 8-0 and 8-2 against Wartburg and Edgewood, respectively.

Eslick topped Abbott in the No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-2 for Wartburg’s lone triumph. Bostwick defeated Emily Heying, 6-2, 4-6 (10-3) at No. 2 and Naidicz earned a 6-1, 6-2 win against No. 3 Jenkins.

In the fourth flight against Wartburg College, Braasch scored a pair of 6-1 set wins over Natalie Branstad, while Broerman knocked out Keyley Grant 6-2, 6-2 in flight No. 5. The sixth flight saw Leffler take both sets, 6-0, against Alana Schneider.

UW-Oshkosh also went 5-1 in singles play against Edgewood, led by Naidicz’s 6-0, 6-2 win over Jenny Pietkauskis in flight No. 3. Bostwick prevailed 6-3, 6-2 against Pinczak at No. 2, but Abbott fell, 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 to Kelsey Steinhorst in the first billing.
