The UW-Oshkosh women’s volleyball team had three players named to the NCAA Division III Midwest Region team.

Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) and Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) were named to the 12-person first team and Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) was named as the Region Freshman of the Year and was selected to the honorable mention team.

Fischer, an All-WIAC first team selection, started all 41 matches this season and played in 140 of the Titans' 143 games played. Fischer was named the August 29 - September 4 WIAC player of the week and was named to four all-tournament teams in 2005, including being named the most valuable player of the St. Mary’s University Classic. This season she finished with 237 kills, 1,721 assists, 73 service aces, 472 digs and 125 blocks. Her season assist total places her fifth all-time in UW-Oshkosh annuals.

Rosenbaum, an All-WIAC first team honoree, started all 41 matches this year and played in a team leading 141 games. Rosenbaum was named the September 19 - 25 WIAC player of the week and was named to three all tournament teams this year. She slammed down 558 kills on 1,212 attempts for a glossy .391 hitting percentage. She also accumulated 164 blocks and 79 digs during the season. Her season kill and kill attempts totals were the fifth highest ever at UW-Oshkosh.

Schmidt garnered both of her awards by starting in all of UW-Oshkosh’s 41 matches and appearing in 138 games. She was named to the UW-Oshkosh Invitational all-tournament team and amassed 50 service aces and 804 digs. Schmidt became the Titans' and WIAC all-time season dig leader by recording eight more digs than UW-Oshkosh’s Donna Mleziva who had set the standard in 1988 with 796. Schmidt joins UW-Oshkosh’s Amber Petersen as the second Titan to receive the Midwest Region Freshman of the Year honor in the six-year history of the award. Petersen won the award in 2001.

UW-Oshkosh head coach Brian Schaefer was named the Tachikara/AVCA NCAA Division III Midwest Region Coach of the Year after leading the Titans to a 36-5 record and a share of the WIAC title. Picked to finished seventh in the WIAC, UW-Oshkosh posted a 7-1 record in the league as Schaefer was named the WIAC Coach of the Year.

Starting the season unmentioned in the NCAA Division III top 25, the Titans gained mention in the top ten for eight consecutive weeks. The Titans had a 4-4 record against current top 25 teams and finished the season ranked 10th in the NCAA Division III. Schaefer owns a 46-11 career coaching record after serving as interim head coach for 16 matches a year ago.

The Titans participated in the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 2001 and won 30-plus games in a season for the first time since 2001. The Titans also finished with the fewest losses in team history.

Fischer and Rosenbaum join 15 other UW-Oshkosh players who have been awarded NCAA Division III all-region honors. Together they have received 23 all-region awards.

Other members of the Midwest Region first team were Jori Simmons from Carthage College, Nicole Carlson and Lindsay Johnson from Elmhurst College, Katie Crumley from Millikin University, Molly Menard and Jenny Wolter from UW-Eau Claire, Jessica Freund from UW-La Crosse, Dana Alf from UW-Platteville and Alison Miller and Abbie Mueller from UW-Whitewater.

Four members of the UW-Oshkosh women’s volleyball team were awarded 2005 post-season accolades by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Titans were co-champions of the league with UW-Whitewater sporting a 7-1 conference record, its first conference crown since the 2001 season.

UW-Oshkosh players recognized were setter Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) and middle blocker Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) as All-WIAC first team selections and left-side hitter Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield) and libero Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) as All-WIAC honorable mention choices. Schmidt was also named to the four person All-WIAC defensive team. The selections marked the sixth time in seven years that UW-Oshkosh had multiple players named to the All-WIAC first team.

She finished second in the WIAC with 3.96 kills per game and sixth with 1.16 blocks per game. Rosenbaum was named the September 19-25 WIAC player of the week and was named to three all-tournament teams this year. She also accumulated 164 blocks and 79 digs during the season.

Beining joined Schmidt as the only freshmen on this year's All-WIAC team. Beining finished ninth in the WIAC in kills per game at 3.27, 12th in service aces per game at .41 and 11th in digs per game at 3.35 per game. She was named the most valuable player of the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut classic and totaled 370 kills, 46 service aces, 378 digs and 36 blocks despite being injured for seven matches. She appeared in 113 games and started in all 34 matches she had been a participant.

Schaefer mentored a team that started four freshmen, two sophomores and one senior. The Titans captured the St. Mary's University Classic, the Centre College Classic, the UW-Whitewater Invitational, the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic and the North Central College Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament. The Titans participated in the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time since 2001 and won 30-plus games in a season for the first time since 2001.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's volleyball team will play in the championship match of the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional after defeating Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 3-1, on Friday (Nov. 11) in Oshkosh, Wis. The second-seeded Blugolds won the contest over the third-seeded Titans in game scores of 30-26, 30-21, 17-30, 30-26.

UW-Oshkosh overcame an 8-4 deficit in game one by scoring nine of the next 11 points to take a 13-10 lead. UW-Eau Claire rallied back to take a 16-15 lead and held the advantage the rest of the game. The Titans pulled to within 26-24, but the Blugolds captured the victory by scoring four of the game's final six points. UW-Oshkosh hit .270 in the game with 15 kills, while UW-Eau Claire hit .240 with 20 kills.

UW-Eau Claire jumped to a 9-3 lead in game two, but UW-Oshkosh stormed back with a 9-3 scoring run of its own to even the count at 12-12. The Blugolds pulled away from a 20-19 lead by scoring 10 of the game's final 12 points. UW-Eau Claire hit .308 in the game with 16 kills, while UW-Oshkosh hit a match-low .132 with just 10 kills.

UW-Oshkosh never trailed in game three as it increased a 6-5 lead into a 17-8 advantage. The Titans led 25-17 before rattling off five unanswered points to win the game. UW-Oshkosh hit a match-high .424 in the game with 17 kills. UW-Eau Claire hit just .154 with 14 kills.

Game four was tied 14 times, with the last being 23-23. UW-Eau Claire ended the game and the match by scoring seven of the last 10 points. The Blugolds hit .395 in the game with 14 kills, while the Titans hit .200 with 15 kills.

UW-Eau Claire hit .275 for the match. The Blugolds also totaled 71 kills, 66 assists, 60 digs and 10 blocks. UW-Oshkosh hit .250 for the match with 57 kills, 63 digs, 55 assists and 15 blocks.

Jenny Wolter totaled 21 kills to lead the Blugolds, while Jodi Dunbar and Molly Menard added 14 each and Jessica Groh 11. The Blugolds also benefited from the 52 assists, 12 digs and seven kills of Carly Freiborg and the 27 digs of Shanna Berger.

Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield) had 19 kills and eight digs for the Titans, while Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) contributed 12 kills and three solo blocks. UW-Oshkosh also received 48 assists, 14 digs and two service aces from Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac), 17 digs from Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) and 10 kills from Kim Vail (So. • Madison). Schmidt concluded the year with 804 digs, a new WIAC single-season record.

The loss to UW-Eau Claire ended UW-Oshkosh's 10th NCAA Division III postseason appearance. The Titans, who were picked to finish seventh in the WIAC standings at the beginning of the year, finished the 2005 season with a 36-5 record. The won-lost mark was UW-Oshkosh's best since a 40-5 record in 1996.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team overcame a 9-7 deficit in the fifth and deciding game to edge Carthage College, 3-2, in an opening round contest of the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional held Thursday (Nov. 10) in Kolf Sports Center

UW-Oshkosh improved its record to 36-4 on the season by ousting Carthage College in game scores of 27-30, 30-19, 30-22, 25-30, 15-13. The victory advances the third-seeded Titans to the regional semifinal, where they'll meet second-seed UW-Eau Claire (29-4) at 7 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 11) in Kolf Sports Center.

Carthage College, which also lost a 3-2 decision to UW-Oshkosh in the 1990 NCAA Division III Championship, ends the season with a 30-7 record. The Lady Reds were seeded sixth in the Midwest Regional.

In game one, Carthage College jumped out to a 9-4 lead and still led by five, 12-7, before the Titans tied the game, 14-14.  Carthage College led by no more than three points before UW-Oshkosh tied things up at 24-24.  The Lady Reds ran off four straight points to take a 28-24 lead.  Trailing by four, 29-25, the Titans closed to within two, 29-27, before Carthage College closed things out at 30-27. Carthage College held a 22-15 advantage in kills in the game.

In game two, UW-Oshkosh opened up a 7-2 lead. Carthage College tied the game, 9-9, before the Titans opened up an eight-point lead, 19-11  Leading by four, 23-19, the Titans ran off seven-straight points to win game two, 30-19. UW-Oshkosh had five service aces in the game.

Game three started out tight, with neither team leading by more than two points until UW-Oshkosh took a five-point lead, 18-13.  The Titans extended their margin to seven, 24-17, and Carthage College got no closer than five, 25-20, as the Titans went on to win by eight points, 30-22. UW-Oshkosh had a 18-12 advantage in kills in the game.

In game four, the Lady Reds jumped out to a 13-6 lead.  UW-Oshkosh closed to within four, 14-10, before Carthage College went back up by seven, 19-12.  The Titans went on 6-2 run to make it a three-point contest, 21-18.  Carthage College had another three-point lead, 22-19, before using a 6-3 run to go back up by seven, 28-21, en route to a 30-25 decision. UW-Oshkosh held a 16-14 advantage in kills in the game, but was outhit .458 to .222.

In game five, Carthage College led most of the way, albeit by a narrow margin.  The Titans tied the game, 9-9, took their first lead, 10-9, and then went on a late spurt to take a three-point lead, 13-10.  The Lady Reds cut the lead to two, 13-11. UW-Oshkosh went back up by three, 14-11.  Carthage College made it a one-point game, 14-13, before the Titans won it, 15-13. UW-Oshkosh outhit Carthage College by a .471 to .250 count in the game.

UW-Oshkosh was led by Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield), Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) and Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown). Beining totaled 18 kills, 11 digs and three service aces, while Fischer compiled 56 assists, 15 digs and six blocks. Rosenbaum tabulated 20 kills and six blocks. The Titans also received 12 kills and three blocks from Kim Vail (So. • Madison) and 12 digs and 11 kills from Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners).

The Lady Reds were led by Emily Cahoon who had 43 assists and 15 digs. Kelly Bauer had 19 kills and four service aces, Becky Handley 26 digs and Lauren Eggert 12 kills and 25 digs. Tiffany Thorsell and Jenny Lachman each had five blocks.

Both teams totaled 70 kills and 66 assists in the evenly played match. UW-Oshkosh pulled out the win by hitting .283, compared to .237 for Carthage College. The Lady Reds held advantages of 86-73 in digs and 12-10 in service aces.

Although outscored in almost every statistical category, The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team won the crucial points and outlasted UW-Whitewater 3-2 in the third place match of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday (Nov. 5) in Whitewater. Game scores were 30-32, 30-26, 30-28, 15-30, 15-13. With the win UW-Oshkosh improves to 35-4 and UW-Whitewater falls to 35-4.

It was the highest win over a rank opponent for UW-Oshkosh since the Titans beat the number one ranked Warhawks in 2001. UW-Whitewater entered the match ranked fifth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll and UW-Oshkosh eighth.

In the WIAC championship match UW-Platteville swept UW-Eau Claire 32-30, 30-25, 33-31 to capture the WIAC tournament crown and the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III championships. The Titans, Warhawks and Blugolds will learn on Monday (Nov. 7) if they received an at large bid into the tournament.

UW-Whitewater held a 28-24 lead in game one before UW-Oshkosh clawed back to within 28-27. After trading sideouts the Titans tied the score at 29-29 and 30-30 off of kills by Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners). UW-Whitewater sided out again before a UW-Oshkosh hitting error gave the Warhawks the tight first game victory.

The momentum of almost winning the first game carried the Titans into the second stanza. The Titans held leads of 23-16 and 29-23 before winning by the four-point margin. UW-Oshkosh held a 16-11 advantage in kills and held UW-Whitewater to a .071 hitting percentage.

The third game was tightly contested as the two combants fought to take a sizable lead. Tied 12 times in the game the Titans finally pulled away for a 28-25 and 29-26 lead. The Warhawks had a chance to tie the game at 29-29 but a hitting error gave the Titans a 2-1 lead in the match. Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) had seven kills and Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) had eight digs to lead the Titans to the win.

The fourth game was all UW-Whitewater as they stormed out to cushions of 6-0 and 13-2 before winning by 15 points. The Titans point total was the lowest of the season as they got outhit .486 - .000 in the game and surrendered three service aces.

Game five was a tale of two halves as the Warhawks led 5-1 and 8-4 before the side change. A block solo by Kim Vail (So. • Madison) and then Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) gave the Titans life at 9-8. Neither team held more than a one-point lead until the final score. With UW-Oshkosh serving at 14-13 the Titans received a dig from Fischer, a kill from Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield) with an assist from Vail to seal the victory.

The triumph marks the first time UW-Oshkosh has beaten UW-Whitewater since 2001 and the first time in Whitewater for more than a decade. UW-Oshkosh had now beaten 11 of 15 opponents this season that were ranked at some time in the NCAA Division III top 25.

UW-Oshkosh was led by Rosenbaum who had 20 kills in 52 attempts and only one hitting error. Fischer was one kill away from a triple-double with nine kills, 51 assists and 15 digs. Valerie Yost (Fr. • Oshkosh) had a career-high 17 kills and hit .483 with four blocks. Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) added a match high 24 digs, Beining seven kills, three service aces and 18 digs and Galonski nine kills and 12 digs.

UW-Whitewater was led by Rebekah Nelson who had 21 kills and 13 digs. Cassie Uttech had 16 kills and Abby Schultz had a team high 23 digs. Abbie Mueller had nine kills, four service aces, 64 assists and 12 digs. Kim Fruit added 22 digs and 14 kills and Allison Miller had 14 kills.

UW-Oshkosh pulled out the win despite being out hit .239 - .196. UW-Whitewater also had more kills (83-69), assists (68-52) and blocks (14.0 - 7.0). UW-Oshkosh had narrow leads in service aces (8-7) and digs (82-81).

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team could not overcome a strong hitting attack from UW-Eau Claire and lost in game scores of 30-27, 30-25, 30-27 in the semifinal match of the WIAC Tournament held on Friday (Nov. 5) in Whitewater. With the loss the Titans fell to 34-4 overall and the Blugolds improved to 28-3.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked eighth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll held a 10-6 lead in game one before UW-Eau Claire, ranked 13th in the same poll, fought back. Tied 12-12, neither team had more than a three point lead the rest of the game. After a sideout made the score 26-26, the Blugolds finished the game on a 4-1 run. UW-Eau Claire held a 20-14 advantage in kills in the first stanza.

UW-Oshkosh stormed out to a 5-0 lead in game two on the serve of Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac). The lead did not last long as UW-Eau Claire tied the game at 8-8. Again neither team held more than a three-point advantage until the Blugolds went ahead 26-22. UW-Eau Claire outscored the Titans 4-3 to go up 2-0 in the match. UW-Oshkosh held a 14-12 cushion in kills but could not overcome four more hitting errors.

The Titans were swept for only the second time this season as the Blugolds pulled out a tight third game. Tied at 27-27 the Blugolds sided out and then relied on a UW-Oshkosh hitting error and a receiving error to end the match. UW-Oshkosh was outhit 21-14 in kills in the game and 53-42 for the match.

With the win UW-Eau Claire advances to the WIAC championship game for the first time since 1990 when it lost to UW-Oshkosh in five games. UW-Eau Claire is riding an 11-game winning streak with the Blugolds last loss coming to the Titans in five games on October 14 in Oshkosh. UW-Eau Claire held a 13.5 - 6.0 advantage in blocks and .286 - .163 in hitting percentage.

Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) led the Titans with nine kills and four blocks. Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners) had nine kills and nine digs and Fischer ended the match with six kills on 10 errorless attacks and 29 assists. Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield) had eight kills and seven digs while Lisa Beck (Jr. • Darboy) scooped up eight digs.

Jodi Dunbar led the Blugolds with 15 kills, Jenny Wolter ended with 13 and Molly Menard 11. Carly Freiborg dished out 43 assists and Shanna Berger collected 18 digs.

UW-Oshkosh swept UW-Superior for the second time this season as it defeated the Yellowjackets, 3-0, in a quarterfinal round match of the WIAC Women's Volleyball Tournament held Tuesday (Nov. 1) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh (34-3), which ousted UW-Superior (21-14) in game scores of 30-21, 30-13, 30-28, advances to a semifinal round contest with UW-Eau Claire (27-3) on Friday (Nov. 4) at 5 p.m. in Whitewater. UW-Eau Claire qualified for its match with UW-Oshkosh by sweeping UW-Stout (17-18) on Tuesday in game scores of 30-28, 30-27, 30-24.

Other quarterfinal round results on Tuesday had UW-Whitewater (34-2) sweeping UW-River Falls (17-18) in game scores of 30-14, 30-22, 30-28, and UW-Platteville (26-7) edging UW-La Crosse (24-8) in game scores of 25-30, 30-26, 27-30, 30-19, 15-10. UW-Whitewater, which shared the WIAC's regular season championship with UW-Oshkosh, will host UW-Platteville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in the tournament's other semifinal.

The championship match of the WIAC Tournament is scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 5) at 2:30 p.m. in Whitewater. The winner of the WIAC Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, hit .160 against UW-Superior with 46 kills, 76 digs 12 blocks and nine service aces.

UW-Superior, which was seeking its first WIAC Tournament win since 1992, hit just .000 against UW-Oshkosh with 27 kills, 61 digs, four blocks and two service aces.

Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) led UW-Oshkosh with 12 kills, while Rebecca Masephol (So. • Pittsville) added nine, Valerie Yost (Fr. • Oshkosh) eight and Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) seven. Fischer also totaled 36 assists, 17 digs and four solo blocks in the match, while Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) contributed 20 digs, Masephol 15 digs and Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners) 12 digs.

UW-Superior was led by the 14 digs and 13 kills of Amber Bergson. The Yellowjackets also received 14 digs and four kills from Molly Ray and 21 assists, nine digs and four kills from Alicia Fairchild.

Game one stayed close until UW-Oshkosh scored five straight points to take a 20-15 advantage. The Titans built a 23-18 lead and finished the game with a 7-3 scoring run. UW-Oshkosh totaled 33 digs and held UW-Superior to a -.050 hitting percentage in the game.

UW-Oshkosh fired off 16 straight points behind the serving of Galonski to take a 24-6 lead in game two. Galonski had two service aces during the scoring run, while Fischer had four blocks and Schmidt six digs. UW-Superior again struggled at the net, hitting just -.172 on six kills and 11 errors.

After trailing 4-0 in the third game, UW-Superior fought back to tie the score at 12-12. The Titans responded by going ahead 22-16 before the Yellowjackets closed to within 22-21 after a 5-1 scoring run. Trading points for consecutive serves, UW-Superior tied the match at 23-23. UW-Oshkosh held at least a one-point advantage the rest of the way until a Masephol kill ended the match. UW-Superior kept the game close by slamming down 15 kills, three more than the first two games combined.

The UW-Oshkosh women’s volleyball team swept through its pool before losing to UW-La Crosse in the championship match at the eight-team UW-Oshkosh Invitational held at Kolf Sports Center Friday and Saturday (Oct. 28-29).

The Titans beat Millikin University (Ill.) 30-24, 30-18, 30-23 and Lakeland College 30-13, 30-20, 30-22 on Friday and beat Ripon College 30-16, 30-19, 29-31, 30-23 before losing to UW-La Crosse 26-30, 31-29, 31-29, 27-30, 15-11 on Saturday.

In the opening match the Titans held the Big Blue to a negative .018 hitting percentage in the three-game sweep. Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) led the team with 17 kills on 33 errorless attempts and added six blocks. Kim Vail (So. • Madison) added nine kills and Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) topped the team with 34 assists and 18 digs. Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) added 15 digs as the Titans recorded 67 in the match.

In the win over the Muskies, Rebecca Masephol (So. • Pittsville) had a career-high six service aces and added 12 digs. Vail led the team with 10 kills and Fischer dished out 43 assists and had 12 digs. Lindsey Erickson (So. • Madison) came off the bench to record a career-best five kills and Rosenbaum again did not have a hitting error with eight kills on 17 attempts. UW-Oshkosh has never lost to Lakeland College in twelve meetings.

Every UW-Oshkosh player played in at least two games in the four-game win over the Red Hawks. Rosenbaum and Vail each had 12 kills and Fischer had 27 assists and 14 digs. Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners) had a career high four blocks, Stacy Templin (Fr. • Cannon Falls, Minn.) an individual best 15 assists, Kayla Anhalt (Fr. • New Holstein) achieved a career-high seven kills and Erickson a career-best seven digs.

In the championship match against the Eagles, UW-Oshkosh could not overcome 14 service errors and 49 hitting errors in the narrow defeat. UW-Oshkosh held leads of 29-27 in both the second and third games before UW-La Crosse rallied to win 31-29. The Eagles set a school record with 16 block solos in the match.

Despite the loss the Titans had some individual success in the match. Schmidt set career-highs of eight service aces and 38 digs, one shy of the school record. Rosenbaum had individual bests of 24 kills on 68 attempts. Masephol set a new individual standard with 26 digs and Vail added a career-best 20 kills.

Fischer dished out 61 assists and scooped up 21 digs and Galonski added 19 digs. Valerie Yost (Fr. • Oshkosh) had double digit kills with 10 and Lisa Beck (Jr. • Darboy) chipped in three service aces. Rosenbaum and Schmidt were awarded for their weekend efforts by being named to the ten person all-tournament team.

The UW-Oshkosh women’s volleyball team won its fifth tournament title of the season by going 4-0 at the North Central College Invitational held on Friday and Saturday (October 21-22). UW-Oshkosh tied with St. Norbert College by going undefeated in the tournament but the Titans were awarded the tournament title by having a better game winning percentage.

UW-Oshkosh (30-2) registered its sixth consecutive sweep with victories of 30-18, 30-21, 30-22 over Luther College (Iowa) and 30-21, 30-22, 30-18 over Benedictine University (Ill.) on Friday and wins of 30-26, 30-25, 30-24 over Aurora University (Ill.) and 30-23, 30-21, 30-24 over the University of Chicago (Ill.) on Saturday.

With the victories the Titans hit the 30-win plateau for the first time since the 2001 season and for the 12th time since 1983. UW-Oshkosh currently is the seventh ranked team in the NCAA Division III AVCA poll.

In the first match of the tournament UW-Oshkosh swept Luther College for the second time this year. The Titans hit a whopping .389 in the match collecting on 49 kills in 95 attempts as every player played in at least two games. Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield) continued her torrid hitting with 14 kills and added 13 digs. Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) finished with 12 kills and four blocks while Kim Vail (So. • Madison) added 11 kills and three blocks. Rebecca Masephol (So. • Pittsville) had a match-high 18 digs and Stacy Templin (Fr. • Cannon Falls) served up a career-high four service aces.

In the second match against Benedictine University, UW-Oshkosh had to come back from a 16-11 disadvantage in game one to earn its second consecutive sweep. Tied at 20-20, Lisa Beck (Jr. • Kimberly) rattled off eight straight points for a 28-20 lead that the Titans would not relinquish. Rosenbaum led the team with 15 kills and nine blocks and Masephol tallied 10 kills, 17 digs and a career-high six blocks. Samantha Schmidt scooped (Fr. • Waupun) up 27 digs and Beck finished with 11. Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) dished out 38 assists and had 13 digs. The Titans finished with 88 digs in the three game victory.

On Saturday UW-Oshkosh held off a scrappy Aurora University team by slamming down 20 kills in the first two games and a total of 52 in the match. Rosenbaum had 18 of those kills and Vail added 14. Fischer led the offense with 45 assists and Schmidt collected 20 digs. Masephol added eight kills, three service aces and 16 digs.

UW-Oshkosh ended the tournament against a tall and athletic University of Chicago squad. The Titans served well with a tournament high 14 service aces on only six serving errors. Fischer had a dominating performance with her fourth triple-double of the year with a team leading 12 kills on 17 errorless attempts and 30 assists, 13 digs, four service aces and five blocks. Schmidt added 19 digs and three service aces and Vail had 11 kills. Rosenbaum finished with 10 kills and five blocks and Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners) fired three service aces and amassed 12 digs.

Rosenbaum was the lone member of the UW-Oshkosh squad named to the all-tournament team.

UW-Oshkosh (22-2) beat UW-Stout for the third time in seven days, the latest in the championship match of its own invitational, to capture the Pizza Hut Classic for the third consecutive year.

On Friday (Oct. 7), UW-Oshkosh defeated Marian College (9-11) 30-24, 31-29, 23-30, 30-18 and UW-Stout (12-10) 30-27, 30-21, 30-21 and on Saturday (Oct. 8) got by North Central College (Ill.) (7-13) 30-19, 30-21, 30-23 and UW-Stout (13-11) again 30-24, 30-28, 30-24.

For their efforts Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield), Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) and Kim Vail (So. • Madison) were all named to the six-person all-tournament team. This was the first all-tournament team selection for Beining and Vail in their careers.

Beining, who was named the tournament most valuable player, Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners), Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) and Vail all had nine kills against the Sabres. Fischer tallied 33 assists and nine digs, Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) had 16 digs and Kayla Anhalt (Fr. • New Holstein) established career-highs of six kills and 11 digs. Every member of the Titans team played at least two games.

In the skirmish against the Blue Devils Galonski had a match-high 15 kills. Fischer recorded eight kills, 42 assists and eight digs and Schmidt gobbled up 19 digs. Beining had 13 digs and Rosenbaum put down 10 kills. Valerie Yost (Fr. • Oshkosh) stuffed three balls at the net and Lisa Beck (Jr. • Darboy) had a season-high four service aces.

In Saturday's action the team hit .315 and put away 53 kills in its second win of the year over the Cardinals. Beining hit .393 on 16 kills and Vail had a career-high 12 kills on 16 errorless attempts for a glossy .750 hitting percentage. Galonski led the team with 14 digs. Fischer dished out 44 assists and added seven kills, seven digs and two solo blocks.

In the championship match against the Blue Devils, Beining had 15 kills and 11 digs. Fischer contributed 46 helpers,14 digs and four blocks and Schmidt scooped up 17 digs. Galonski had 11 kills and digs and Vail recorded 10 kills.

Off to its best start since 1996 when the Titans started 27-0, UW-Oshkosh won its 16th straight match at the University of Whitewater Invitational held on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 23-24) in Whitewater. UW-Oshkosh (16-1) has not lost since a season opening defeat to Elmhurst College, and captured its third straight tournament title, tying UW-Whitewater with a perfect 4-0 record.

UW-Oshkosh started play by beating North Central College (Ill.) 26-30, 30-19, 30-26, 30-24 and Illinois Institute of Technology 30-23, 30-24, 30-24. Second day action saw the Titans defeat Lakeland College 30-15, 30-19, 30-22 and Illinois Wesleyan University 30-21, 29-31, 30-27, 30-17.

In match against the Cardinals the Titans survived 36 hitting errors by posting 64 kills and 11 team blocks. Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners) led the team with 17 kills and added 12 digs. Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield) and Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) each added 14 kills. Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) led the team with 21 digs and Lisa Beck (Jr. • Darboy) added a season high 15 digs. Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) dished out 50 assists and tallied three service aces.

Relying on their blocking, the Titans hung on against the Scarlet Hawks by piling up 12 team blocks. Fischer and Rosenbaum each had six stuffs in the contest. Rosenbaum was the only UW-Oshkosh player in double-digit kills with 10. Schmidt let the defense with 21 digs and Fischer added 29 assists and 10 digs. Beining added seven kills and nine digs.

The Titans had 12 service aces and hit .314 in the sweep of the Muskies. Rosenbaum topped the team with 10 kills and added three blocks. Val Yost (Fr. • Oshkosh) led the team with four blocks and hit .625 on six kills. Fischer again led the offense with 39 assists and added nine digs and six kills. Kim Vail (So. • Madison) had eight kills on 15 attempts and Schmidt led the defense with 17 digs.

In the last match of the tournament, Schmidt scooped up a career-high 31 digs in the battle of the Titan. After a easy win in game one, UW-Oshkosh trailed 29-26 before evening the score at 29 behind a service ace by Galonski. Following a side-out by Illinois Wesleyan University, a UW-Oshkosh hitting error evened the series at one game a piece.

The third game was tied at 27-27 before a UW-Oshkosh side out and two hitting errors by Illinois Wesleyan University gave UW-Oshkosh the lead in the match. The fourth game was all UW-Oshkosh as the team had five service aces in the game. Galonski ended the match with 18 kills and 17 digs and Beining added 14 kills and nine digs. Fischer had 51 assists and 14 digs.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team won its 11th straight match after going undefeated at the Centre College Classic held Saturday (Sept. 17) and Sunday (Sept. 18) in Danville, Ky. The Titans won the tournament by defeating Muskingum College (Ohio) 30-22, 30-26, 30-22 and Centre College (Ky.) 30-18, 30-18, 30-28 on Saturday and Bridgewater State College (Mass.) 30-18, 30-16, 30-24 and Hanover College 30-25, 30-26, 30-15 (Ind.) on Sunday.

California State University-East Bay also finished 4-0 in the tournament but the Titans were awarded the tournament championship based on a better game win-loss percentage. The Titans, ranked 23rd in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, are off to their best start since the 2001 season where they started the season 13-1.

In the opening match against the Lady Muskies, UW-Oshkosh was able to overcome 32 hitting errors and 12 serving errors in the three-game sweep. Defensively Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) shined by scooping up 29 digs. Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield) added 17 digs and 11 kills and Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners) added 15 digs as the team had 83 digs in the match.

Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) led the team with 14 kills and Valerie Yost (Fr. • Oshkosh) had eight kills on 15 errorless attempts and a team-leading five blocks. Ashley Fischer led the team with 44 assists and added six kills, seven digs and three blocks.

In the nightcap, UW-Oshkosh had 14 less hitting errors and hit .296 as a team against the Colonels. Rosenbaum had 16 kills on 25 errorless attempts for a .640 hitting percentage. Schmidt had her 12th straight double-digit dig performance with a team leading 11 digs and Fischer added 39 assists. Lisa Beck (Jr. • Darboy) added 10 digs for the victors.

On Sunday, the Titans swept their third straight opponent by hitting .291 on 49 kills against the Bears. Fischer produced 40 assists, seven kills and five service aces. Rosenbaum again led the team with 10 kills while hitting .529 with six blocks. Schmidt added a team leading 19 digs and Rebecca Masephol (So. • Pittsville) added eight kills and 10 digs.

In the final round of the tournament the Titans hit a team tournament high .316 behind a 14-kill performance by Rosenbaum against the Panthers. Rosenbaum has had double-digit kills in every match during the Titans winning streak. Kim Vail (So. • Madison) added nine kills and four blocks and Fischer dished out 41 assists and added four service aces, nine digs and four blocks. Schmidt (19), Galonski (14) and Beining (10) all had double digit digs.

Fischer and Rosenbaum were named to the all-tournament team.

Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac) and Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) received all-tournament honors as the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team won the Sugar Loaf Classic held Friday and Saturday (Sept. 9-10) in Winona, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh (7-1) took first place after defeating Coe College (Iowa), 30-28, 30-15, 30-23, and Luther College (Iowa), 30-20, 30-18, 30-18, on Friday and the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), 28-30, 31-29, 30-20, 30-28 and Carthage College, 30-28, 30-25, 26-30, 30-25, on Saturday. The victories extended UW-Oshkosh's winning streak to seven matches.

On Friday in the win over Coe College, Fischer dished out 48 assists leading the Titans to a team .317 hitting percentage. She also added four service aces and 15 digs. Katie Beining (Fr. • Brookfield) added 14 kills and Rosenbaum and Megan Galonski (Fr. • Hales Corners) chipped in with 13 kills each. Defensively Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) scooped up 27 digs and Lisa Beck (Jr. • Darboy) added 12. UW-Oshkosh held advantages of 12-4 in service aces and 74-42 in digs in the match.

In a sweep over Luther College. the Titans out hit their opponent .330-.091 in the easy victory. In a match where every UW-Oshkosh player received playing time, Rosenbaum put down 15 balls and Schmidt and Rebecca Masephol (So. • Pittsville) each dug up 15. Fischer contributed eight kills, seven service aces and 38 assists and Laura Hartman (Jr • Plymouth) had two service aces.

On Saturday the Titans outlasted the the University of St. Thomas by serving tough and playing great defense. The Titans registered 15 service aces and reached triple digit team digs for the third time this season with 101. Five players reached double digit digs led by Schmidt and Beining with 23, Beck and Galonski with 16 and Fischer with 11. Rosenbaum hit .537 on 23 kills and Beining added 14 kills. Fischer dished out 61 assists and Valerie Yost (Fr. • Oshkosh) had five blocks.

In the championship match of the eight-team tournament against Carthage College, Fischer was two blocks away from recording a quadruple double as she recorded 11 kills, 48 assists, 13 digs and eight blocks against the Lady Reds. 15 of those assists went to Rosenbaum as she hit .324 in the match and added a season-high 10 blocks. Beining added 10 kills and 15 digs and Yost and Galonski collected nine kills. Schmidt led the team for the seventh consecutive match with 25 digs, and Beck, Fischer and Masephol each had three service aces.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team lost its season opener at the Elmhurst College Invitational (Sept 2-3) before rebounding with three straight wins to finish with a 3-1 record and a fourth place finish at the 12-team event.

On Friday (Sept. 2) the Titans opened the 2005 campaign by losing to Elmhurst College, 30-16, 23-30, 30-27, 32-30, and then beating St. Mary's College (Ind.), 30-22, 30-27, 30-14. On Saturday (Sept. 3) UW-Oshkosh outlasted Nebraska Wesleyan University, 30-18, 24-30, 30-25, 23-20, 15-5, and held on to defeat conference foe UW-River Falls, 30-28, 30-28, 24-30, 30-24.

Ashley Fischer (Sr. • Fond du Lac), who was named to the six-person all-tournament team, finished with167 assists and 64 digs in the four matches. Newcomer Samantha Schmidt (Fr. • Waupun) led the team with 105 digs and Leah Rosenbaum (So. • Wrightstown) topped the team with 55 kills and 13 blocks. Also making their collegiate debuts were Katie Beining (Brookfield), Megan Galonski (Hales Corners) and Valerie Yost (Oshkosh). Beining totaled 43 kills and 53 digs, Galonski tallied 12 service aces, 36 kills and 49 digs and Yost chipped in 31 kills.

In the opening match against the Bluejays, Beining led the team with 13 kills and had 11 digs. Kim Vail (So. • Madison) had a .368 hitting percentage on nine kills and Fischer paced the offense with 29 assists. Schmidt had a match high 29 digs and Galonski chipped in eight kills and 10 digs.

After splitting the first two games, Elmhurst College was up 27-23 in game three before UW-Oshkosh knotted the score at 27-27 behind two kills by Beining. After a Bluejay sideout, the hosts scored two quick points to go up 2-1 in the match. Down 29-26 in game four, UW-Oshkosh went up 30-29 behind the serve of Lisa Beck (Jr. • Darboy). After a sideout again by Elmhurst College to even the score at 30-30, UW-Oshkosh committed two hitting errors to end the match. The Bluejays entered the match as the 12th ranked team in the NCAA Division III according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll.

In the nightcap, UW-Oshkosh overwhelmed St. Mary's College (Ind.) behind a 17-kill performance by Rosenbaum. Schmidt had a match high 27 digs and Galonski had 10 kills and 12 digs. Fischer dished out 33 assists and Vail slammed down 11 kills as the team hit .313 in the match.

On Saturday UW-Oshkosh traded games with Nebraska Wesleyan University before prevailing in the deciding fifth game. Knotted at two games each, the Titans stormed out to leads of 5-1 and 10-3 in the final stanza and never looked back recording a .400 hitting percentage on eight kills. For the match Fischer collected her first triple-double of the year with 11 kills, 56 assists and 24 digs. Rosenbaum hit .538 on 15 kills and Beining slammed down 14 kills of her own. Defensively Schmidt scooped up 25 digs and Galonski and Beck had 17 each. Galonski and Beining also had four service aces and Vail recorded a career-high 12 kills. As a team the Titans recorded 13 service aces and 104 digs.

After hanging on for identical 30-28 wins in games one and two, UW-Oshkosh was extended to a fourth game before upsetting 20th ranked UW-River Falls in a non-conference match-up. The first two games were close throughout before a missed serve in game one and a block by Vail in game two gave the Titans the victory at 30-28. The Titans held a 24-22 lead in game three before UW-River Falls rattled off seven straight points after a sideout. UW-Oshkosh closed out the match in game four with aggressive serving as the Titans fired five service aces in the game, including three from Galonski.

Rosenbaum held the top hitting honor for the third straight match as she slammed down 15 kills for a .364 hitting percentage. She also added six blocks, including four solo stuffs. Schmidt registered 20 or more digs for the fourth straight outing with 24 and Fischer ran the offense with 49 assists. Beining amassed 11 kills and 23 digs and Yost hit .462 on seven kills. Galonski had a solid showing with nine kills and 10 digs as UW-Oshkosh beat UW-River Falls for the first time since 2001.
