The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team had four of its players earn NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region accolades by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Named to the 12-member NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region first team were UW-Oshkosh's Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown) and Kim Vail (Jr. • Madison). The Titans' Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun) received honorable mention status, while UW-Oshkosh's Leah Stumpf (Fr. • Kaukauna) was named the Midwest Region's Freshman Player of the Year.

Rosenbaum started all 42 matches this past season and played in 134 of the Titans’ 141 games played. She was named WIAC Player of the Week twice and was named to three all-tournament teams. This past season, Rosenbaum totaled 489 kills on 1,046 attempts for a .395 hitting percentage. She also tallied 140 total blocks, 56 digs and 15 service aces.

Rosenbaum, who received NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region and All-WIAC first team honors in 2005 and 2006, also became the Titans' first two-time all-region first team selection since Christina Southward earned All-Midwest Region first team accolades in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Vail, a first-time all-region honoree, started 37 of the Titans’ 42 matches this past year and played in a team-leading 137 games. The 2006 All-WIAC first team selection also totaled 422 kills on 998 attempts for a .301 hitting percentage while collecting 119 digs and blocking 85 shots. Vail was a three-time all-tournament honoree in 2006.

Schmidt gained her second consecutive NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region honorable mention award after starting 41 matches and totaling 833 digs and 35 service aces in 133 game played this past year. Schmidt received All-WIAC honorable mention status for a second straight season and was named to the All-WIAC Defensive Team for the second consecutive campaign. Schmidt’s dig total set UW-Oshkosh and WIAC season records, breaking the standard she set last year as a freshman with 804. Schmidt set a UW-Oshkosh record in 2006 when she scooped up 41 digs in a five-game win over Carthage College.

Stumpf joins Amber Petersen and Schmidt as UW-Oshkosh players who have received the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Freshman Player of the Year Award. Petersen won the award in 2001 while Schmidt captured the award last season.

Stumpf started 39 matches this past season and played in 121 games. She dished out 1,367 assists and totaled 226 digs, 91 kills, 56 total blocks and 35 service aces. Stumpf was named to the all-tournament team at the Elmhurst College Invitational.

UW-Oshkosh compiled a 32-6 record and captured its second consecutive WIAC title this past season. The Titans competed in their 11th NCAA Division III postseason tournament and were ranked among the top-10 teams in the country for eight weeks.

Since 1984, 18 UW-Oshkosh players have combined to collect 25 NCAA Division III all-region awards.

Other members of the 2006 NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region first team were Jori Simmons of Carthage College, Jenna Passananti of Illinois Wesleyan University, Shanna Berger, Carly Freiborg and Jessica Groh of UW-Eau Claire, Dana Alf of UW-Platteville, Andrea Geehan of UW-River Falls, Shelly Maus of UW-Stevens Point and Rebekah Nelson and Carlene Polk of UW-Whitewater.

The University of St. Thomas (Minn.) rallied from a two games to one deficit to defeat UW-Oshkosh, 3-2, in the opening round match of the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Midwest Regional Tournament held Thursday (Nov. 9) at the McPhee Physical Education Center in Eau Claire.

The ninth-ranked Tommies, avenging a regular season loss to the Titans, won by scores of 31-29, 23-30, 26-30, 30-26, 15-12 to advance to face the region top-seeded team and defending national champion UW-Whitewater.

10th-ranked UW-Oshkosh went up 16-8 in game one and had a game point at 29-28 before the University of St. Thomas scored the final three points to take the first game 31-29. The Tommies had 16 kills in the game.

The Titans jumped out to an early lead in game two and this time hung on to the advantage, winning by a score of 30-23 to even the match. Both teams struggled in game two as UW-Oshkosh had a .043 attack percentage and the University of St. Thomas had a .023 as both teams had 11 hitting errors.

The Titans continued their success into game three after trailing 7-5. After a sideout, UW-Oshkosh scored five straight points on their way to winning game three 30-26 to take a two games to one lead. The Titans had 19 kills in the game, their highest of the match.

The Titans looked to close out the match in game four, but the Tommies scored nine of the last 12 points to survive and win 30-26 to force a fifth and deciding game. The University of St. Thomas countered UW-Oshkosh's 16 kills in the fourth game by collecting 17 kills, their highest of the contest.

After a close start to game five, the University of St. Thomas pulled away to lead 14-8. After a UW-Oshkosh side out, the Titans made things interesting by scoring three straight points to trail 14-12. The Titans ended the match and their season with a missed serve as the Tommies advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships. The Tommies had their best attack percentage (.304) of the match in the fifth game.

Both teams finished with 67 kills, while the University of St. Thomas had 19.5 blocks, compared to 12 for the Titans and held a 103-81 advantage in digs.

Rachelle Dosch led the Tommies with 21 kills and Katie McCaffrey had a match-high 13 blocks.

The Titans were led by Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown) with 18 kills, followed by Katie Beining (So. • Brookfield) with 16 kills. Beining also led the team with 22 digs. Other UW-Oshkosh contributions included the 15 kills, eight digs and four service aces of Rebecca Masephol (Jr. • Pittsville) and the 20 digs of Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun).

The University of St. Thomas improves to 29-6 this season and UW-Oshkosh’s season ends with a 32-6 record.

Four members of the UW-Oshkosh women’s volleyball team were awarded 2006 postseason accolades by the WIAC. The Titans (32-5) were co-champions of the league with UW-Eau Claire. It was UW-Oshkosh's second consecutive conference title and eighth overall.

UW-Oshkosh players honored were middle blocker Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown) and right-side hitter Kim Vail (Jr. • Madison) as first team selections and left-side hitter Katie Beining (So. • Brookfield) and libero Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun) as honorable mention choices. Schmidt also was named to the four-person All-WIAC defensive team.

Rosenbaum, an All-WIAC first team selection last season and an All-WIAC honorable mention pick in 2004, started 35 of the Titans' 38 matches this year and played in 134 games. She led the WIAC in hitting percentage, finished seventh in kills per game, sixth in blocks per game and eighth in points per game. Rosenbaum had double-digit kills in 29 matches and only had over four hitting errors in a match once.

Rosenbaum was named WIAC Player of the Week twice and was named to three all-tournament teams this past year. She accumulated 489 kills, a .395 hitting percentage, 140 blocks and 56 digs. Last season, Rosenbaum received NCAA Division III All-America third team honors.

Vail started 35 matches this past year and compiled 422 kills, a .301 hitting percentage, 119 digs and 85 blocks in a team-leading 137 games played. She was seventh in the WIAC in hitting percentage, 11th in kills per game and 13th in points per game. Named to three all-tournament teams, Vail had double-digit kills in 26 matches, highlighted with an 18-kill performance against UW-Platteville.

Schmidt earned both of her league awards for the second straight year after appearing in 133 games and starting all 38 of UW-Oshkosh’s matches. She led the WIAC in digs per game, scooping up 833 digs while adding 39 service aces. Schmidt had double-digit digs in 37 of the Titans' 38 matches and had over 20 digs 23 times. She established a UW-Oshkosh record by totaling 41 digs in a five-game win over Carthage College. Schmidt’s dig total set UW-Oshkosh and WIAC season records, breaking the standard she set last year as a freshman with 804. Last season, Schmidt was also the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Freshman Player of the Year.

Beining is a repeat performer on the All-WIAC honorable mention team after starting in 31 of the 34 matches that she participated in this past year. Despite missing four matches due to injury, Beining totaled 344 kills, 337 digs, 46 service aces and 38 blocks in 117 games played. In a five-game win over the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) she amassed 18 kills and 20 digs.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team registered its second consecutive 30-plus win season after going undefeated at the Centre College Classic held Saturday (Oct. 28) and Sunday (Oct. 29) in Danville, Ky.

UW-Oshkosh (32-4) won the tournament by defeating Oglethorpe University (Ga.) 30-18, 30-14, 30-19 and Heidelberg College (Ohio) 27-30, 30-24, 30-27, 30-21 on Saturday and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) 30-13, 30-25, 30-19 and the College of Mt. St. Joseph (Ohio) 25-30, 30-20, 31-29, 30-28 on Sunday.

The Titans, ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division III poll conducted by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, have now won eight consecutive matches.

In the opening contest against Oglethorpe University (6-23), UW-Oshkosh did not have a receiving error in the three-game sweep. Defensively Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun) shined by scooping up 14 digs and adding four service aces.

Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown) led the team with 10 kills and Jacque Ray (Fr. • Oshkosh) had a team leading five blocks. Katelyn Vara (Fr. • New Berlin) dished out 17 assists, Callie Hainzinger (Fr. • Verona) pitched in three service aces and Rebecca Masephol (Jr. • Pittsville) added 11 digs. UW-Oshkosh had a season-high 15 service aces in the match.

In the nightcap, Kim Vail (Jr. • Madison) and Masephol each recorded 16 kills to lead UW-Oshkosh over Heidelberg College (19-14). Schmidt tallied 23 digs, Lisa Beck (Sr. • Darboy) added 16 digs and Masephol pitched in 10 as the team scooped up 80 digs in the match.

Rosenbaum added 12 kills and three service aces and Ray once again led the team with five blocks. Beck ran the offense with 36 assists and Vara chipped in 10 helpers.

On Sunday, UW-Oshkosh had little trouble against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (2-27) as everybody available to play received court time. Rosenbaum led the team with 11 kills and five blocks, Schmidt had eight digs and Leah Stumpf (Fr. • Kaukauna) dished out 18 assists.

In the championship match of the tournament, UW-Oshkosh was able to squeak out the last two games to take a four-game win over the College of Mt. St. Joseph (24-11). Rosenbaum recorded a .486 hitting percentage on 19 kills and added 11 blocks to lead the Titans.

Ray added 12 kills and Masephol (11) and Vail (10) each added double-digit kills. Schmidt led the backcourt with 24 digs, Laura Hartman (Jr. • Plymouth) had a career-high 15 digs and Masephol chipped in 13. Stumpf dished out 55 assists and added seven digs and Ashley Sullivan (Fr. • DeForest) tallied eight kills.

Rosenbaum and Vail were named to the all-tournament team.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to 11 matches before falling to UW-River Falls in the championship match at the Elmhurst College Invitational held Friday (Sept. 13) and Saturday (Sept. 14) in Elmhurst, Illinois.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked sixth in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, played four matches and won three of them. The Titans (24-4) defeated Springfield College (Mass.) 30-15, 27-30, 30-15, 30-19, Loras College (Iowa) 30-18, 30-18, 30-19 and Webster University (Mo.) 30-26, 30-24, 21-30, 27-30, 17-15. UW-Oshkosh lost to UW-River Falls 30-25, 21-30, 32-30, 30-26 in the championship match of the eight-team tournament.

On Friday, UW-Oshkosh dominated three of the four games in the four-game victory over Springfield College (17-5). The Titans hit .400 in game one on 15 kills in doubling up the Pride. Down 8-5 in game two, the Titans stormed ahead 13-8 behind eight consecutive service points by Lisa Beck (Sr. • Darboy). The Titans maintained at least a three-point lead in game two and led 27-24 before the Pride scored the last six points of the game to tie the match at one game each.

After surrendering game two, the Titans responded by streaking out to a 9-1 lead in game three. Ahead 19-14, UW-Oshkosh received eight straight points behind the serve of Rebecca Masephol (Jr. • Pittsville) for a 27-14 lead. The Titans ended the game on a kill by Katie Beining (So. • Brookfield).

UW-Oshkosh inched ahead 11-8 in game four and was up 24-18 after a service ace by Masephol. After two consecutive time-outs by Springfield College, UW-Oshkosh went ahead 25-19 with a kill by Jacque Ray (Fr. • Richland Center). Callie Hainzinger (Fr. • Verona) finished the match by scoring the last five points of the game, two on service aces.

Beining led UW-Oshkosh with 13 kills and added seven digs. Kim Vail (Jr. • Madison) added 12 kills and Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown) had nine kills in 19 errorless attempts and three blocks. Ray finished with five blocks and Masephol pitched in 16 digs, eight kills and four blocks. Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun) led the team with 19 digs and five service aces and Leah Stumpf (Fr. • Kaukauna) dished out 34 assists. The Titans finished with 13 service aces on only three serving errors.

UW-Oshkosh swept Loras College (11-12) for the second time this season as all 17 available players received playing time for the Titans. After falling behind 5-1 in the opening game, UW-Oshkosh responded by outscoring the Duhawks 29-13. Included in the scoring outburst was an eight-point scoring run by Laura Hartman (Jr. • Plymouth) for a 28-16 advantage.

Games two and three were all UW-Oshkosh as the Titans did not allow the Duhawks to score 20 points. For the match Beining led the Titans with 10 kills and seven digs. Rosenbaum added eight kills and three blocks, Masephol pitched in seven kills and seven digs and Stumpf had 26 assists and three blocks. Schmidt once again led the defense with 15 digs and chipped in four service aces. The Titans hit .369 as a team and only had one receiving error in the match.

In Saturday's action, UW-Oshkosh had to hang on to beat Webster University (12-8) in five games despite hitting over .300 in each game and .363 for the match. After winning the first two stanzas, UW-Oshkosh held a 14-10 advantage in game three after a five-point serving skein by Hartman. From there the Gorloks outscored the Titans 20-7 to take game three and pulled out a close fourth game to force a deciding fifth game.

Neither team held more than a three-point advantage in game five. UW-Oshkosh took an 8-6 cushion at the side change and went ahead 14-12 on a kill by Rosenbaum. The Gorloks stormed back tying the score at 14-14. After both teams traded kills, the Titans went ahead 16-15 on a kill by Masephol. Beining ended the match with one of her 19 kills of the match. The Titans finished the fifth game with 13 kills in 19 attempts for a .632 hitting percentage. Rosenbaum led the Titans with 20 kills, Schmidt led the team with 24 digs and Stumpf finished with a career-high 65 assists and added eight kills. Vail added 17 kills, Beck 14 digs and Masephol and Beining each had 13 digs. The Titans countered only having four blocks in the match by slamming down a season-high 75 kills in the match.

UW-Oshkosh saw its 11-match winning streak snapped by UW-River Falls in the championship match. After traded victories in the first two games, UW-Oshkosh battled back from a 29-26 deficit in game three to take a 30-29 advantage. Swinging for game point, UW-Oshkosh was blocked by UW-River Falls knotting the score at 30-30. Consecutive hitting errors by the Titans gave the Falcons the win in game three.

UW-River Falls (19-8) held cushions of 16-10 and 24-19 before UW-Oshkosh closed the deficit to 27-26. From there the Titans suffered a serving error, receiving error and a kill by the Falcons to suffer only their second loss in two years to a unranked team.

Rosenbaum finished the match with 19 kills in 38 attempts for a .474 hitting percentage. Beining and Vail each had 15 kills and Masephol added nine kills, four service aces and 19 digs. Schmidt led the team with 25 digs and Stumpf chipped in 56 assists and 11 digs.

For the tournament, Beining led the team with 57 kills and added 43 digs. Rosenbaum finished with 56 kills and nine blocks and Vail added 48 kills. Stumpf, who was named to the six-person all-tournament team dished out 181 assists and Schmidt finished with 83 digs and nine service aces. Masephol chipped in 55 digs, 29 kills and seven service aces.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team won its fourth tournament of the year and its sixth straight match by going unbeaten in four matches to take first place at the UW-Whitewater Invitational held Friday (Sept. 29) and Saturday (Sept. 30) in Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, grabbed the tournament title by defeating Gallaudet University (Va.), 3-0 (30-28, 30-20, 30-20), Lawrence University, 3-0 (30-17, 30-21, 30-21), Wisconsin Lutheran College, 3-0 (30-13, 30-19, 30-21) and Illinois Wesleyan University, 3-1 (21-30, 30-26, 30-24, 34-32). The Titans tied UW-Whitewater for the championship with a 4-0 record in the seven-team tournament.

In Friday's action, UW-Oshkosh and Gallaudet University (12-6) traded side-outs until UW-Oshkosh took a 19-17 lead on a kill by Kim Vail (Jr. • Madison). The Titans built a 24-17 lead behind five straight serves from Rebecca Masephol (Jr. • Pittsville). The Bison chipped away at the lead before the Titans held a 29-25 advantage. After a three-point run by Gallaudet University closed the gap to one point, UW-Oshkosh's Katie Beining (So. • Brookfield) ended the game with a kill.

Game two was all UW-Oshkosh as they stormed out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back. The Titans recorded eight team blocks in the game and received two service aces from Callie Hainzinger (Fr. • Verona). Game three started much the same as game two as the Titans build an 8-3 lead before the Bison stampeded back to take a 10-8 advantage on a seven-point run. After a side-out the Titans went on their own seven-point outburst to claim a 15-10 advantage.

After a side-out by Gallaudet University and one by UW-Oshkosh, the Titans went on another four-point skein to pull out to a 20-11 advantage. UW-Oshkosh held at least an eight-point advantage the remainder of the contest. Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown) led UW-Oshkosh with14 kills and eight blocks. Vail added nine kills and six blocks and Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun) had 21 digs. Lisa Beck (Sr. • Kimberly) and Masephol chipped in 10 digs and Valerie Yost (So. • Oshkosh) had four blocks. Katelyn Vara (Fr. • New Berlin) had a career-high 18 assists in the contest.

The Titans finished with a season-high 19 team blocks and had 13 players record at least one block in the match.

In their second match on Friday, all 18 players on the team received playing time as the Titans had little trouble beating Lawrence University (6-15) for the second time this season. Schmidt tallied 14 digs in two games of action to lead UW-Oshkosh and Laura Hartman (Jr. • Plymouth) set a career-best eight digs. Vail tallied 10 kills and Ashley Sullivan (Fr. • DeForest) had an individual-best seven kills, all in the third game. Jacque Ray (Fr. • Richland Center) had three blocks and Beck scooped up eight digs.

Three UW-Oshkosh setters ran the offense led by Leah Stumpf (Fr. • Kaukauna) with 15 assists, Toni Gruber (Fr. • Spring Green) with 10 and Vara with nine. The Titans hit .313 in the match.

In Saturday's action UW-Oshkosh had little trouble with Wisconsin Lutheran College (5-13) as all 18 members of the team saw action for the second consecutive match. Trailing 7-5 in game one, Beck scored five straight points on her serve for an 11-7 UW-Oshkosh lead. Up 16-10 the Titans put together a six-point run on the serve of Hartman for a 22-10 advantage. The Titans went on to outscore the Warriors 25-6 to end the first game. Game two and three were all UW-Oshkosh as they never trailed. The Titans went on to hit .307 in the match and recorded 10.5 team blocks. Schmidt led the team with 14 digs and Rosenbaum chipped in eight kills and six blocks. Megan Loker (Fr. • Oshkosh) set a career-high with six kills on 10 errorless attempts and Stumpf dished out 22 assists.

In the final match of the tournament, UW-Oshkosh overcame an opening game loss to defeat Illinois Wesleyan University (11-5) in four games. Ahead 10-7 in game one, UW-Oshkosh gave up a ten-point run to trail 17-10 and eventually fell behind 24-16 before losing by nine points.

UW-Oshkosh came back in games two and three to take a 2-1 advantage in games. UW-Oshkosh outscored Illinois Wesleyan University 8-4 to end game two and 6-0 to end game three to take control of the match. UW-Oshkosh trailed Illinois Wesleyan University 29-26 in game four before siding out to close the gap to 29-27. Beck stepped behind the service line and fired off three points for a 30-29 UW-Oshkosh cushion. The two teams traded side-outs until Rosenbaum ended the match at 34-32 with a kill.

Vail and Beining led UW-Oshkosh with 14 kills, Masephol 12 and Rosenbaum 10. Schmidt scooped up 31 digs, Masephol 21, Beining 17 and Beck 13 as the team recorded a season-high 101 in the match. Stumpf dished out 26 assists and added seven digs and Vara pitched in 24 assists and five kills. Ray, Rosenbuam and Vail each had four blocks in the match.

For the tournament, Vail led the Titans with 42 kills and 12 blocks. Schmidt added 80 digs, Stumpf dished out 76 assists, Beck scooped up 34 digs and Ray had 11 blocks. Rosenbaum finished with 35 kills and 18 blocks, Beining with 27 kills and 30 digs and Masephol with 26 kills and 38 digs.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team opened its WIAC slate with three straight road matches and came home with a 2-1 record. UW-Oshkosh opened the WIAC portion of its schedule by defeating UW-Platteville 30-26, 19-30, 30-24, 30-28 on Wednesday (Sept. 20), losing to UW-Eau Claire 30-26, 30-25, 30-19 on Friday (Sept. 22) and defeating UW-Superior 30-27, 26-30, 30-19, 32-30 on Saturday (Sept. 23).

UW-Oshkosh (14-3/2-1 WIAC), ranked 11th in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association fell behind 9-3 in the opening game against 19th ranked UW-Platteville. Trailing 16-12, the Titans tied the score at 18-18 after a side out. From there UW-Oshkosh took the lead for the first time and went ahead 21-18 with three points off of Rebecca Masephol's (Jr. • Pittsville) serve, including two service aces.

The Titans took a 1-0 game lead with a kill from Kim Vail (Jr. • Madison) and finished the stanza with 19 kills on a whopping 52 attempts. The Pioneers knotted the score at 1-1 by hitting .524 in game two on 12 kills in 21 attempts while holding the Titans to a .000 hitting percentage.

Despite hitting .406 in game three on 15 kills, UW-Oshkosh had to hold on for the victory as UW-Platteville (10-3/0-1 WIAC) also recorded 15 kills on a .324 hitting percentage. The Pioneers were hurt in the game as they committed five serving errors.

Game four was close throughout as neither team had more than a three-point cushion. With UW-Oshkosh clinging to a 21-19 lead, both teams traded side outs for 14 consecutive serves until the 28-26 mark of the contest. The Pioneers closed the gap to 28-28 and had a chance to go up by one point before a block by Ashley Sullivan (Fr. • De Forest) gave the Titans match point at 29-28.

After a dig by Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun), UW-Oshkosh received a kill by Sullivan off of an assist by Leah Stumpf (Fr. • Kaukauna) to end the match. Jacqueline Ray (Fr. • Richland Center) came off of the bench to record two blocks in the fourth game and Laura Hartman (Jr. • Plymouth) contributed two service aces in the deciding game.

Katie Beining (So. • Brookfield) led the Titans with 17 kills on a .457 hitting percentage and added 14 digs. Schmidt scooped up 23 digs and Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown) added 14 kills and four blocks. Masephol finished with a match-high four service aces and added nine digs and Stumpf dished out 40 assists.

Rachel Chapman led UW-Platteville with 18 kills and 15 digs and Dana Alf chipped in 16 kills. Kelly Laschinger finished with 48 assists and eight digs and Amy Renick pitched in 15 digs.

UW-Oshkosh won the match despite hitting over 100 percentage points lower than UW-Platteville. The Pioneers were hampered in their efforts with 13 serving errors on only three service aces.

In the their second match of the road trip, UW-Oshkosh could not get anything going offensively as they were out hit .311 - .119 by UW-Eau Claire (12-1/1-0 WIAC) and had 15 fewer kills (49-34). UW-Oshkosh also only registered one service ace in the contest on eight service errors. The Blugolds, who entered the contest ranked #5 in the NCAA Division III, tallied 9.5 blocks in the match and 47 digs.

Rosenbaum led the Titans with 10 kills and a .421 hitting percentage. Beining chipped in 11 kills and Vail had nine. Schmidt finished with a match-high 15 digs and Stumpf added 31 assists. Jodi Dunbar led UW-Eau Claire with 15 kills and Jessica Groh and Abby Freiborg had nine kills each. Carly Frieborg dished out 36 assists and had 13 digs and Shanna Berger scooped up 13 digs.

After a 90-minute delay due to a power outage, UW-Oshkosh held off one game point in the fourth game to avoid a deciding fifth game to defeat UW-Superior. The Titans have not lost to the Yellowjackets since the 1992 season.

After splitting the first two games and an 11-point win in the third game by the Titans, the fourth game was close throughout until the Yellowjackets inched ahead for a 20-16 lead. Scoring seven of the next nine points UW-Oshkosh went ahead 23-22 and held a 29-26 advantage for three chances to close out the match.

After a side out by UW-Superior (6-10/0-2 WIAC) closed the gap to two points, the Yellowjackets registered a kill and had a service ace to tie the score at 29-29. Another kill by UW-Superior gave the host team a game point opportunity before a kill by Rosenbaum tied the score at 30-30. After another kill by Rosenbaum gave UW-Oshkosh their first match point opportunity, Masephol unleashed a match-winning service ace giving the Titans the victory.

Rosenbaum led the Titans with 20 kills on 36 attempts for a .527 hitting percentage. Schmidt scooped up 24 digs and Beining tallied 12 kills and 20 digs. In her first collegiate start Ray had eight kills for a .636 hitting percentage and had a team-high six blocks. Vail added 12 kills and Lisa Beck (Sr. • Darboy) added 11 digs and four service aces. Stumpf had a productive match with seven kills, 57 helpers and 12 digs.

UW-Superior was led by Emma Bryant who had 16 kills. Alicia Fairchild added 38 assists and Anne LeBard tallied 11 digs.

The Titans had 11 team blocks, 87 digs and 66 kills in the contest.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team won its first two matches on Friday (Sept. 15) and then split a pair of contests against two top-10 ranked teams on Saturday (Sept. 16) to go 3-1 at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked 11th in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, played four matches during its home tournament and won three of them. The Titans (12-2) defeated Aurora University (Ill.), 3-1 (16-30, 30-18, 30-16, 31-29) and Loras College (Iowa), 3-0 (30-22, 30-25, 30-18) on Friday, before falling to ninth ranked UW-Whitewater 3-2, (21-30, 30-25, 30-27, 21-20, 15-13) and defeating fourth ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.) 3-2, (30-28, 20-30, 30-25, 24-20, 15-11) on Saturday.

In the opening match on Friday, Aurora University (3-7) scored six of the last eight points in game one to take a quick 1-0 lead in the match. UW-Oshkosh regrouped to take a 15-5 lead in game two and was led by Lisa Beck's (Sr. • Darboy) 10 straight service points in game three to push out to a 2-1 cushion in games.

The Spartans pushed the Titans to extended points in game four before a hitting error gave the Titans the victory. Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown) led UW-Oshkosh with 19 kills, a .474 hitting percentage and four blocks. Leah Stumpf (Fr. • Kaukauna) dished out 51 assists, Kim Vail (Jr. • Madison) added 17 kills and four blocks and Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun) collected 27 digs and three service aces. Katie Beining (So. • Brookfield) chipped in nine kills and 11 digs, Beck tallied 13 digs and Rebecca Masephol (Jr. • Pittsville) scooped up 12 digs.

In the second match on Friday, UW-Oshkosh swept Loras College (3-4) behind a .311 team hitting percentage and 16.5 total blocks, including 10 solo stuffs. Stumpf led UW-Oshkosh's charge at the net with six blocks, a career high, followed by Rosenbaum's five blocks and Beining's four. Vail and Masephol each three blocks each as UW-Oshkosh recorded a season best in the match.

Vail was the only Titan in double-digit kills with 12 on a .476 hitting percentage. Rosenbaum added nine kills, Masephol seven and Beining five as all three of them only had one hitting error in the contest. Schmidt added 17 digs and Beck seven. The Titans were held without a service ace in the match.

In a match-up of two of the top teams in the WIAC, UW-Whitewater (12-1) survived a back and forth match to defeat UW-Oshkosh in Saturday's opening round contest. The victory by the Warhawks avenged a 3-2 set-back last year at the conference tournament - a win the Titans claimed 15-13 in the fifth game on the Warhawks' home court.

Tied at two games each, the Titans held an 8-5 lead before the Warhawks scored six straight points for an 11-8 advantage in game five. Down 12-9, UW-Oshkosh fought back to tie the score at 13-13 before two UW-Whitewater kills ended the match.

Five UW-Oshkosh players tallied double-digit digs in the contest. Schmidt led the Titans' charge with 37 digs followed by Beck with 18, Masephol with 17, Beining with 14 and Stumpf with 10. Stumpf added 55 assists and five blocks and Rosenbaum had 17 kills and Vail 16. Laura Hartman (Jr. • Plymouth) amassed three service aces and Rosenbaum stopped four UW-Whitewater attacks.

In the final match of the tournament, UW-Oshkosh was pushed to the limit before upsetting the University of St. Thomas (11-2) behind a career-high 20 kills by Masephol. After trading victories in the first four games, UW-Oshkosh took advantages of 8-5 and 12-8 in the fifth game before ending the contest with a kill by Vail.

Named to the 10-person all-tournament team, Masephol also finished with 14 digs and Vail tallied 16 kills. Beining and Rosenbaum joined the double-digit kill performances with 18 and 16, respectively, and Beining added 20 digs. Stumpf set career-highs with 62 assists and 19 digs and Schmidt scooped up 32 digs. Beck added three service aces, including one in the fifth game and tallied 21 digs. The Titans had season-highs of 110 digs and 76 kills in the match.

Rosenbaum and Vail led the team for the weekend with 61 kills each, hitting .343 and .338, respectively in the four matches. Schmidt collected 113 digs and Stumpf added 199 assists, 35 digs and 15 total blocks. Beining tallied 40 kills and 49 digs and Masephol had 38 kills and 48 digs. Schmidt and Beck each had five service aces and Rosenbaum finished with 16 blocks.

The all-tournament team selections were the second career nods for both Vail and Masephol. Vail was an honoree last year at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic and Masephol was named to the six-person squad at the Centre College (Ky.) Invitational last season.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team ran its season-opening winning streak to seven matches before falling to Concordia College (Minn.) at the Trinity University Invitational held Friday (Sept. 8) and Saturday (Sept. 9) in San Antonio, Texas.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, played four matches on its southwestern trip and won three of them. The Titans (7-1) defeated Christopher Newport University (Va.), 3-1 (30-20, 25-30, 30-25, 30-25), Trinity University (Texas), 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 34-32), and Hardin-Simmons University (Texas), 3-0 (30-27, 32-30, 30-28). UW-Oshkosh lost to 11th-ranked Concordia College, 3-0 (30-19, 30-25, 30-25), in its final match of the five-team tournament.

UW-Oshkosh tripped Christopher Newport University (1-5) in its tournament opener by winning the last two games of the match. The Titans took the contest despite hitting .158, including just .028 in game two. Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown) hit .471 in the match with 17 kills, six blocks and three digs. The Titans also received 12 kills and 11 digs from Katie Beining (So. • Brookfield), 11 kills and seven digs from Kim Vail (Jr. • Madison), 49 assists, six digs and four blocks from Leah Stumpf (Fr. • Kaukauna) and 26 digs from Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun).

UW-Oshkosh withstood late charges in each game to sweep Trinity University (4-2). UW-Oshkosh hit .163 in the match with 53 kills, including a season-high 22 in game three. Rosenbaum hit .341 in the contest with 18 kills, while Vail added 11 kills and three blocks. The Titans also benefited from the 10 kills and eight digs of Rebecca Masephol (Jr. • Pittsville) and the 10 kills and 12 digs of Beining.

The Titans picked up their final win of the tournament by overcoming deficits of 28-26 in games two and three to sweep Hardin-Simmons University (2-5). UW-Oshkosh hit only .121 in the match, but totaled 83 digs, 16 blocks and nine service aces. Rosenbaum totaled 15 kills, while Vail added seven and Stumpf six. The Titans also received 27 assists from Stumpf, 22 digs from Schmidt and five kills and six blocks from Valerie Yost (So. • Oshkosh).

UW-Oshkosh suffered its first loss of the season as Concordia College (7-0) held the Titans to a .128 hitting percentage. Vail had 10 kills in the match, while Beining and Rosenbaum both totaled nine. The Titans also got 28 assists from Stumpf and 26 digs from Schmidt.

Concordia College, Trinity University and UW-Oshkosh all finished the tournament with 3-1 records, but the host Tigers captured the first-place trophy by posting the highest winning percentage in games played.

Rosenbaum was UW-Oshkosh's lone representative on the six-player all-tournament team. She hit .405 in the event with 59 kills, 15 blocks, five digs and five service aces.

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team opened its 2006 season by going unbeaten in four matches to take first place at the Elmhurst College Invitational held Friday (Sept. 1) and Saturday (Sept. 2) in Elmhurst, Ill.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, grabbed the championship trophy by rallying to defeat Carthage College, 3-2 (24-30, 27-30, 30-24, 30-25, 15-5), in the title match. The Titans also topped Alma College (Mich.), 3-0 (30-24, 30-10, 30-17), 14th-ranked College of St. Benedict (Minn.), 3-0 (30-24, 30-24, 30-19) and 25th-ranked Elmhurst College (Ill.), 3-1 (28-30, 30-19, 30-20, 30-19), in the 12-team tournament.

UW-Oshkosh overcame a two-game deficit to edge Carthage College (3-1) in the championship contest. The Lady Reds built a 2-0 advantage in the match as they led most of the first game and scored 11 unanswered points to take the second. UW-Oshkosh rallied to even the match by posting victories in the third and fourth games. The Titans scored 15 of the last 17 points in the fifth and deciding game to complete the comeback.

Katie Beining (So. • Brookfield) led UW-Oshkosh to its victory over Carthage College by totaling 18 kills and 11 digs. The Titans also received 19 kills from Leah Rosenbaum (Jr. • Wrightstown), 12 kills from Kim Vail (Jr. • Madison), 63 assists from Leah Stumpf (Fr. • Kaukauna) and a school-record 41 digs from Samantha Schmidt (So. • Waupun). UW-Oshkosh, which defeated Carthage College in the first round of last year's NCAA Division III Championship, hit .258 for the match.

UW-Oshkosh swept Alma College (0-1) as it hit .346 and committed only one receiving error. Rosenbaum had 13 kills and a .706 hitting percentage to lead the Titans, while Vail added nine kills, Schmidt 18 digs and Beining seven kills and 10 digs. The win marked the Titans' sixth season-opening victory in seven years.

UW-Oshkosh hit .355 in its sweep of the College of St. Benedict (1-1). Rosenbaum paced the Titans with 15 kills, while Vail contributed nine kills and three digs, Stumpf 41 assists and Rebecca Masephol (Jr. • Pittsville) five kills, five digs and four service aces.

UW-Oshkosh lost its first game against Elmhurst College (2-1), but took the match after winning the next three. Rosenbaum led the Titans with 15 kills, while Beining added 12 kills and six digs. The Titans also received 10 kills and six digs from Vail, five kills, eight digs and six service aces from Masephol, 27 digs from Schmidt and 48 assists from Stumpf.

Named to the six-player all-tournament team from UW-Oshkosh were Rosenbaum and Vail. Rosenbaum hit .552 with 62 kills and 13 blocks in the tournament, while Vail hit .330 with 40 kills, 11 digs and nine blocks.
