Chris Stratton didn’t hesitate to make the Titans into a stronger team. During his first year as UW-Oshkosh’s head wrestling coach, Stratton sent two individuals to the NCAA Division III Championship and posted the school’s highest point total since 1999.
During his second season (2011-12), Stratton expects a lot from his experienced team. Last year’s squad finished fourth in the WIAC with a 3-2 dual meet record. The Titans then scored five points at the national tournament to place 38th out of 60 teams.
Stratton leads a UW-Oshkosh wrestling program that has been represented at the NCAA Division III Championship four times in the past five years. The Titans finished fourth at the conference meet in 2009 and fifth in 2010.
Stratton had been an assistant coach at UW-Oshkosh from 2008-10. He earned varsity letters wrestling for the Titans during 2004, 2005 and 2007. The Appleton native placed sixth (125 pounds) at the WIAC Championship in both 2004 and 2005.
From 2008-10, Stratton was an instructor in UW-Oshkosh's Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education. He also taught exercise sport science courses at UW-La Crosse and physical education classes at Crucifixion Elementary School (Minn.) during the 2007-08 academic year.
Stratton, who holds membership in the National Wrestling Coaches Association, received his bachelor's degree from UW-Oshkosh in 2007 and his master's degree from UW-La Crosse in 2008.
